I started Alta Financial Group because I believed there was a better way to deliver financial advice — one built entirely around the client, with complete transparency on fees, no hidden incentives, and a genuine legal commitment to doing what's right.

With over 20 years of experience across enterprise technology and financial advisory, I bring a different perspective to wealth management — one shaped by working inside complex organizations, understanding how wealth is built in the technology sector, and knowing firsthand what it takes to build something from the ground up.

Background

Hooman Altafi is the Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Alta Financial Group, a fee-only fiduciary registered investment advisory firm based in San Jose, California. He is also VP of Investments for Alta Nova High Income Fund, a private closed-end fund for accredited investors.

Over the course of more than two decades in professional practice, Hooman has developed a multi-disciplinary perspective on wealth that few advisors can match. He holds licenses as a Registered Investment Advisor, real estate broker, mortgage broker, and insurance professional — giving him the ability to evaluate a client's complete financial picture across investment, real estate, financing, and protection strategies in a way that is genuinely integrated, not siloed.

He works with individuals and families throughout Silicon Valley and California who are looking for a higher standard of advice — independent, conflict-free, and built around their specific goals.

My Approach

I believe most people deserve better than what the traditional financial services industry offers. Too many advisors are rewarded for selling products, not for delivering results. Too many clients pay more than they realize for advice that isn't truly independent.

At Alta, we built the firm around a different model entirely. Our fee is tied to the value of your portfolio — so when you do well, we do well. We earn nothing from commissions, product placements, or referral arrangements. That's not just a policy — it's the foundation of how the business works.

I also believe in staying flexible. Markets change. Life changes. A good financial plan isn't a static document — it's a living strategy that adapts as your circumstances evolve. We take a long-term view, but we're never too proud to make opportunistic adjustments when the situation calls for it.

And every portfolio we manage is built specifically for you. There's no preset investment menu, no model portfolio dropped on every client. We start from your goals, your timeline, and your risk tolerance — and we build from there.

A Career That Spans Two Worlds

Before founding Alta Financial Group, Hooman spent over two decades in enterprise information technology — working across large organizations, managing complex technical infrastructure, and developing a deep understanding of how businesses and institutions operate at scale.

That background shapes how he approaches financial advisory in ways that are genuinely useful to his clients. Silicon Valley is different. A significant portion of the wealth created here comes in forms that traditional financial advisors aren't always equipped to handle — equity compensation, RSUs, concentrated stock positions, stock options, and the financial complexity that comes with building or selling a company.

Having spent years working inside the technology sector before transitioning to financial advisory, Hooman understands this world from the inside. He speaks the language, understands the mechanisms of tech compensation, and knows how to help clients think through the financial decisions that come with building a career — or a company — in Silicon Valley.

The decision to build a fee-only, fiduciary firm wasn't complicated. Once you understand how most financial firms are structured — and how advisor compensation can quietly shape the advice clients receive — the only honest choice is to remove those incentives entirely.

Fee-only means we are paid by you, and only by you. No mutual fund company pays us a trail. No insurance company pays us a commission. No product manufacturer rewards us for recommending their products over a competitor's. The only thing we are compensated for is managing your assets and delivering results.

The fiduciary standard takes that further — it makes our obligation to act in your best interest a legal requirement, not just a preference. We take that seriously, and we chose to build a firm where that standard isn't an exception. It's the only way we operate.
